Description

Obu is a full length mirror, 178cm high by 71cm wide and only 1cm deep, in which the silvered area takes an organic rock like outline and the glass around it is left clear. The design comes from Japanese garden making, where the placing of every stone and tree is deliberate but reads as though it happened by itself: the reflective shape stands for the rock and the clear glass for the water around it. Two thin gold lines cross the glass at the top and the bottom. The design is by Beaverhausen.

It leans as readily as it hangs. The lower of the two gold bars carries an anti slip strip on its underside, which holds it against a wall at an angle, so it can stand on the floor of a bedroom or a dressing area with no fixings at all, and two screws with washers and plugs are supplied for hanging it flat instead. It hangs in one direction only, which is worth checking before the wall is marked. At 1cm deep it sits almost flush, and at 15.3kg it is a one person lift. It is rated bathroom proof, so a bathroom or a shower room is open to it as well as a bedroom. Because the outer glass is clear rather than silvered, the wall colour reads straight through it, so the piece changes a good deal more against a dark wall than a pale one.

The glass is partially transparent mirrored glass and the two lines are gold coloured metal, with nothing to assemble. Wipe it with cleaner sprayed onto a soft cloth rather than onto the glass, and keep standing water off the metal. Seven year warranty, made in Europe.
