Nolmane Outdoor Wall Light - White

The Nolmane is a traditional outdoor wall light: a white lantern that hangs downward from a scrolled wall bracket, with clear glass panels set into a hexagonal frame of cast aluminium. It stands 47.5cm tall, is 20cm wide and reaches 28.5cm out from the wall, a generous coach lantern size for a front door or porch. It takes a standard E27 bulb up to a maximum of 60W, and the bulb is not included, so you choose the colour and warmth of the light yourself. It is rated IP44, which means it is protected from splashing water and lives outdoors on a house wall.

We think it suits a front door, a porch, a back door onto a patio or the wall beside a garage, anywhere a period style lantern looks at home. The white finish keeps the scrollwork, the scalloped trim and the pointed finial crisp against brick, render or painted timber cladding, and the clear glass lets the bulb show, which makes a decorative filament bulb a natural choice. Fitted either side of a doorway, it frames the entrance and puts light where you need it at the step and the lock. Corner mounting is possible too, which opens up the corner of a house or outbuilding as a spot worth lighting.

The body is cast aluminium, and cast aluminium does not rust the way iron does, which matters on a wall that takes the weather. The panels are real glass in a clear finish. There is no switch on the lantern itself: it is switched at the wall, from the light switch on its circuit. It runs on 220-240V, 50/60Hz mains as a hardwired fitting, so a qualified electrician installs it, and the installation instructions come as a download. Packed, it weighs 1.807KG. For the classic look, pair it with a clear E27 bulb of no more than 60W.
