Description

Nobu is a stoneware vase shaped as a fish, with its opening set on the fish's back and finished with a flared rim. Every part of it is hand painted: rows of dots for scales, a large round eye, a fin across its side and a ridged tail, so the whole piece is multicoloured from head to tail. It measures 30.5cm long, 12cm wide and 15cm tall. Seen from the side it is long and low, standing on a small footed base with the head at one end and the tail at the other. Stoneware is dense and hard-wearing, and at 1.1KG the vase sits with a satisfying weight on a table.

At 15cm tall it suits short, loose arrangements: a handful of garden flowers, a few sprigs of greenery or a single bloom cut low. Its length gives it a natural home on a side table, a sideboard, a mantelpiece or a deep windowsill, anywhere it can be seen in profile. It holds its own without flowers too, as a decorative object on a bookshelf or a low table, and we think it makes a cheerful present for anyone who loves the sea or simply likes a piece with a bit of humour.

The vase is made entirely of stoneware and painted by hand. It is not dishwasher safe, so wash it by hand. It should not go in the microwave or the oven either. When styling it, leave a little space at either end so the head and tail are not crowded, and keep the stems short enough that the fish stays the main event. A plain surface, or a table painted in one strong colour, lets the pattern show at its best, and a pair of slim candles nearby picks up its playful mood without competing.

Frequently Asked

What material is the Nobu vase?

It is made of 100% stoneware and painted by hand, which gives it its multicoloured dotted pattern and a solid weight of 1.1KG.

How big is the vase?

It is 30.5cm long, 12cm wide and 15cm tall, so it suits short stems and a long, narrow spot such as a mantelpiece or windowsill.

Can it go in the dishwasher?

No. It is not dishwasher safe, so wash it by hand. It should not go in the microwave or the oven either.

Where is the opening for the flowers?

The opening sits on the fish's back, finished with a flared rim, so the stems rise from the middle of its body.

What kind of flowers suit it?

At 15cm tall it suits short, loose arrangements, such as a handful of garden flowers, a few sprigs of greenery or a single bloom cut low.

Is it only for flowers?

No. Its hand-painted fish shape works as a decorative object on its own, on a sideboard, shelf or side table, with no stems at all.
