Description

A console table 115cm wide, 40cm deep and 86.5cm high, with a reclaimed wood top on an iron base. The top is made as a shallow tray, with a raised lip on all four sides and the inner face of that lip cut by hand into a close run of vertical notches. The wood is pale and open grained, and the marks of its earlier use are still in it. The base is four square-section iron legs on a plain rectangular frame with a low stretcher at each end, and the metal reads dark brown, close to black.

At 86.5cm it stands higher than a dining table, which is console height: a lamp, a bowl for keys and a vase sit at standing height on it rather than seated height. At 40cm deep it holds all of that against a hallway wall without narrowing the way past. The raised lip runs all the way round, so nothing rolls off the back edge.

The top is reclaimed ceiling wood sourced in India, so the grain, the tone and the marks of its earlier use differ from table to table and none of that is applied afterwards. Each top is carved by hand, which is where the notched inner edge comes from. The base is iron, hand-forged. It weighs 19kg. The Nisha range also holds a coffee table and a pair of nesting side tables in the same wood and iron.

Frequently Asked

What is the top made of?

Reclaimed ceiling wood sourced in India. Every top carries its own grain, tone and marks of earlier use.

Is the top flat?

No. It is made as a shallow tray, with a raised lip on all four sides and a run of fine vertical notches carved into the inside face of it.

What size is it?

115cm wide, 40cm deep and 86.5cm high.

How heavy is it?

19kg.

How do I look after it?

Wipe it with a soft dry cloth to lift dust and moisture, working along the grain, and use mild soap and water sparingly. Use coasters and mats, deal with spills at once, and keep harsh chemicals and abrasive materials away from it. Keep it out of strong direct sunlight and away from extremes of heat and humidity.
