Description

Nimbus Orange is a wall mirror 123cm wide by 104cm high, built from alternating bands of silvered and orange glass that follow a soft cloud like outline in from the edge. The bands run parallel to the contour rather than across it, so the eye is carried around the shape instead of over it, and the orange sits against the silvering rather than on top of it. The design is by Karim Rashid.

This is a piece for a wall that can take a strong colour: a hallway, a cloakroom, a bathroom where it is rated to go, or a living room wall that is otherwise plain. It turns on its fixing, so the widest band can be brought to the top or the side. Keep patterned wallpaper away from it, because the banding is already doing that job. At 8kg and 2.5cm deep it is light and sits close to the wall, with two screws, washers and plugs supplied and nothing to assemble. The orange reads warmer under lamplight than under daylight, which is worth a look before the wall is chosen.

The mirror is printed and mirrored glass, frameless, on a rotating suspension. Clean it with cleaner sprayed onto a soft cloth, working along the bands rather than across them so the printed edges are not left streaked. Four bands run in from the edge before the plain mirrored centre opens up, so the colour is concentrated around the outline and the reflection itself stays clear. A pink version is made in the same outline. Seven year warranty, made in Belgium.
