Description

The Nesari is an armchair built entirely from rattan, 83cm tall and 55cm across. The back is one curved hoop that sweeps round into a pair of low arms, filled with upright rattan rods held by rows of cross lashing, and each arm ends in a flat coil of cane. The seat is a grid of split rattan laid across a bound frame. The four legs are thicker lengths of cane, splayed outwards and tied to one another by a cross stretcher close to the floor.

The seat sits 28cm from the floor and measures 52cm wide by 54cm deep, so this is a low chair to sit back in rather than an upright one to eat at. It is not suitable for outdoor use. Indoors the depth suits a bedroom corner, a conservatory or the end of a wide landing, and the open back means it does not close off a window behind it. At 55cm across it will pass through a standard doorway without turning.

Frame and weave are both rattan, left in its natural tone with the darker skin of the cane still showing along the legs and uprights. Each chair is woven by hand, so the spacing of the rods and the exact line of the back differ from one to the next. The Nesari range also runs to a sofa and a hanging chair. No cushion is included.
