Description

The Nans Bag/38 is a low outdoor floor lamp with a round, woven shade shaped rather like a generous basket, 38cm tall and 60cm across. The finish is Red, and the shade is Red (with Orange and Beige): red cord worked through with orange and beige in an open lattice, so light from inside glows through the weave and falls in a soft, patterned pool on the floor around it. A flat dark top with two wooden handles closes the shade. Inside is an integrated LED giving 1023lm, so there is no bulb to buy or change.

Rated IP44, which protects it against splashing water, it suits outdoor use: on a terrace, on a patio or beside the seating in the garden. Sitting low to the ground, it works well next to an outdoor sofa or between a pair of lounge chairs, giving a soft light around the seats. It is just as much at home indoors, in a living room beside a sofa or on a rug, where its colour and open weave bring a relaxed, sunny feel to the room. The two handles make it easy to lift and carry, so you can move it from the living room out to the terrace for an evening outside, within reach of its cable.

We like the mix of materials in it: stainless steel, aluminium, teak wood and synthetic fibre, with the wooden handles adding a natural touch beside the woven shade. It plugs in and runs at 230V, and as a Class II fitting it is double insulated, so it needs no earth connection. With the LED built in and no wiring to arrange, it is ready to light the terrace or the living room as soon as it is unpacked and plugged in. It has a plug on its cable, and we include a UK adaptor in the box, so it is ready for a UK socket. Outdoors, the plug and the adaptor must sit in a covered, weatherproof outdoor socket.
