Description

The Nadeeka is a dining chair with a mango wood frame and a linen seat and back. The back is a single low rectangular pad held between two uprights that rake backwards and taper as they rise, with an open gap left between the pad and the seat. The seat is a deep box cushion upholstered over the frame, fixed with a line of small dark tacks down each back corner. The linen is a fine vertical stripe in charcoal and undyed flax that reads as soft grey from across a room.

The chair stands 84cm to the top of the back, 46cm across and 55cm from front to back, with the seat 47cm off the floor. The back stops low, well under shoulder height, so a run of them along a table reads as a low line rather than screening the room behind. The frame pushes in under a table without the back catching the edge. It is sold singly, and at 5.6kg it lifts with one hand.

The frame is mango wood, sanded and left pale so the grain and the colour changes show through on every leg. The seat is padded and covered in linen, and because the fabric is cut from a striped length the stripe will not fall in the same place on two chairs. The Nadeeka is also made as a counter chair.

How do I look after it?

Lift surface dust with a vacuum or a soft brush on a regular basis, never with a rotating head, which damages the fibres. For a small spillage, lift the liquid with an absorbent tissue, then blot the area with a sponge or a folded towel moistened in lukewarm water, and dry it with warm air from a hair dryer so it does not water mark. Larger and more stubborn stains want a professional. Keep the chair out of direct sunlight, which will fade the linen.

Will every chair look the same?

Not exactly. Mango takes the grain differently in every frame, and the stripe in the linen is cut where it falls.
