Description

An armchair built on a curved frame of solid mango wood. The crest rail sweeps round the back in one piece and carries on forward down both sides into the arms, each of which meets a front upright above the seat. A handwoven cane panel fills the back between the uprights, an open mesh left pale against the wood. The seat is a single loose cushion in slubby cotton, thick and deep, resting on the seat rails rather than fixed into them. The four legs taper away from the frame and are braced by a low stretcher.

At 79.5cm tall and 63.5cm wide it is a chair for sitting in rather than at, and the seat is 46cm from the floor and 53cm deep. It is meant equally for a living room, a reading corner, a bedroom or a garden room. The open cane back means it can stand away from a wall without showing a blank panel to the room behind.

The frame is solid mango wood and the cushion is cotton. Mango is a by-product of fruit farming: the trees are grown for fruit and harvested over years, then cut once they stop bearing so that new ones can be planted, and the waste timber gives the farmers a second income. The cushion cover comes off. Nothing else is included with the chair.

Frequently Asked

Does it have arms?

Yes. The curved crest rail runs forward down both sides into an arm on each side, above the seat.

How many cushions come with it?

One, for the seat. The back is cane and takes no cushion.

How high is the seat?

46cm from the floor, and 53cm from front to back.

How big is the chair?

79.5cm tall, 63.5cm wide and 66cm front to back. It weighs 11kg.

How do I look after it?

Wipe the wood regularly with a soft dry cloth, and use mild soap and water sparingly rather than a wet cloth, always working along the grain. Keep harsh chemicals and abrasive materials away from the finish. The cushion cover is removable and takes a delicate machine wash at 30 degrees; do not tumble dry it, and keep it out of direct sunlight, where the colour can fade.
