Naav Large Mug - Green & Brown - Set of 2

A pair of ceramic mugs, each 7cm tall and 10cm across, holding 370ml. The body carries a mottled olive green glaze that thins to a sandy brown down the sides, with a broad chestnut band round the rim that runs over the lip and on into the inside of the cup. A darker brown wedge climbs from the base to take in the handle and the ground beneath it, meeting the green on a straight diagonal.

The cup is wider than it is tall, 10cm across against 7cm high, so it sits low on the table and takes its 370ml across the width rather than the height. That is a full breakfast coffee or a mug of tea rather than an espresso. The handle is a small closed loop set high on the body, finished in the dark brown rather than the green.

The mugs are ceramic and the glaze is reactive, so it moves in the kiln and settles differently on every cup. The line where the brown meets the green shifts from mug to mug, and the green breaks to brown at different points down the side, so the two in a set will not match each other exactly. Naav is made in three sizes, small, large and extra large, with the extra large sold singly rather than as a pair.
