Description

The Mussotto is an outdoor wall light with a motion sensor, shaped as a rectangle with softly rounded corners. A brushed stainless steel frame sits behind a white plastic diffuser, and a small white sensor head is set just beneath the panel. It is 21cm wide and 30.5cm tall, and it stands 9cm from the wall, so it reads as a slim, flat panel rather than a bulky lantern. It takes a standard E27 bulb of up to 28W. The bulb is not included, which leaves the brightness and colour of the light to you. It is rated IP44, meaning it is protected from splashing water, so it can live outdoors on a house wall.

We would put it beside a front door, on a garage wall or along a side passage, anywhere you want light the moment someone arrives. The motion sensor brings the light to life whenever it senses movement, so there is no fumbling for a switch with shopping bags or keys in hand, and the porch is not lit through the small hours for no reason. The clean rectangle and pale diffuser suit a modern rendered or brick wall, and the brushed steel and white pair easily with white window frames. Because the panel is flat and only 9cm deep, it also works beside a narrow path where a projecting lantern would get in the way.

The body combines stainless steel and plastic, and the shade is white plastic. Stainless steel resists rust, which matters on a wall that faces the weather. It is a wired mains light running at 220-240V, so a qualified electrician should install it, and the installation instructions come as a download for them to read beforehand. When you choose a bulb, keep to an E27 cap of no more than 28W; a frosted bulb pairs well with the white diffuser.
