Description
Museo is a round wall mirror one metre across, carrying a printed fragment of a seventeenth century still life across one side of the glass. The source is a painting by Abraham Mignon held in the Rijksmuseum, and the fragment is reproduced closely enough that the tulips, irises and the small details worked in among them hold up at arm's length. The dark ground of the painting fades into the silvering rather than stopping at an edge. The design is by Julia Dozsa.
The print occupies one side, so which way round it hangs decides whether the painted area falls left or right, and it is worth holding it up both ways first. It suits a hallway, a dining room or a bedroom where it can be looked at closely rather than passed at speed, and it is rated bathroom proof, so a bathroom is within its range. It hangs in one direction. At 11kg and 2.5cm deep it is a one person lift and sits close to the wall, with two screws, washers and plugs supplied and nothing to assemble. Give it a plain wall: the printed area is detailed enough that a patterned ground competes with it.
The mirror is printed and mirrored glass with no frame. Clean it with cleaner sprayed onto a soft cloth rather than onto the glass, and wipe the printed area lightly rather than scrubbing it. The print covers a little under half the face and the change from painted ground to plain mirror is graded rather than cut, so there is no visible join. Seven year warranty, made in Europe.
