Description

The Mulia sets a clear glass shade on the same stand as a solid metal one. A wide flared foot spreads on the floor, a slim brass column rises and cranks forward at the top, and the shade hangs from the end of the arm in a brass collar. The glass is a squat rounded form, wider than it is tall and open at the base, with a softly uneven profile rather than a true hemisphere. It stands 147cm and the flex is black braid with a foot switch.

Clear glass changes what the lamp does. The bulb is on show, its light passes out in every direction as well as down through the open base, and the shade reads as a shape in the room rather than as a screen. The stand still puts it 52cm forward of the foot, so it reaches over a chair, but this is a lamp that fills a corner rather than one that lights a page. It takes one E27 bulb up to 40W and it is rated IP20, for dry indoor rooms.

The stand is iron in an antique brass finish and the shade is recycled glass, blown by hand, so the profile and the wall thickness differ from one to the next and no two catch the light the same way. The glass shade is included, so this arrives as a complete lamp. Bulbs are not included.
