Description
The Knightsbridge L02W1 is a recessed downlight lampholder designed for MR16 12V low-voltage bulbs, with a white pressed steel bezel and integrated bridge support. The GU5.3 socket accepts halogen or LED MR16 bulbs up to 50W max, though bulbs are sold separately. The bridge provides structural support across the ceiling void, eliminating the need for separate joists or noggins at the fitting location.
Intended for residential and commercial fixed ceiling installations, the fitting requires a minimum 110mm ceiling void depth and a 58mm diameter cut-out in the plasterboard or ceiling material. The spring clip fixings grip the ceiling edge from above and below, holding the bezel flush against the ceiling surface with a 5mm projection. Cable termination is via a 10A connector block housed in a secure enclosure behind the lampholder body, with an included cord grip for strain relief.
The white finish on the bezel blends into white ceilings without visual contrast, making the fitting almost invisible when the bulb is off. The IP20 rating limits the fitting to dry indoor locations only — bathrooms, wet rooms and outdoor soffits require higher IP ratings. The Class III rating confirms the fitting operates at extra-low voltage (12V), requiring a separate transformer to step down from 230V mains. Dimming capability depends on the bulb and transformer pairing — an electronic transformer is required for dimming, and the bulb must itself be dimmable.

Frequently Asked
What bulb does it take?
The fitting takes MR16 bulbs with a GU5.3 base, rated at 12V and up to 50W maximum. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users fit 12V LED MR16 bulbs between 5-7W for energy efficiency and reduced heat output.
Does it include a transformer?
No. This is a Class III fitting operating at 12V, so it requires a separate step-down transformer to convert 230V mains to 12V. The transformer is sold separately and must be sized to match the total wattage of all downlights on the circuit.
What ceiling void depth is needed?
A minimum 110mm void depth is required to accommodate the 92mm recessed depth of the fitting body plus clearance for air circulation and safe cable routing. The maximum ceiling thickness is 15mm.
Can it be dimmed?
Dimming depends on three components: the bulb must be dimmable, the transformer must be an electronic dimmable type, and a compatible dimmer switch must be installed. Standard magnetic transformers do not support dimming.
