Description

A blown glass ball, mirrored and clear, hangs from a slim polished chrome suspension with a matching ceiling plate. At 40cm across it reads as a full sphere rather than a small accent, and the reflective surface picks up daylight and lamplight from the rest of the room even before it is switched on. Lit, the glass lets the lamp show through and throws bright points around it. The chrome is a true polish, close to mirror-bright itself, which keeps the metalwork quiet against the glass. It takes an E27 lamp and will dim, given a compatible lamp and a dimmer.

We reach for this over a round dining table or a kitchen island, where a wide globe answers the surface below, and it earns its place in a hallway or a stairwell that has height to spare. The drop can be set as long as 2m, so it will hang low over a table or sit tidily beneath a tall ceiling. Height matters more than floor space here: allow room for the sphere to stay clear of heads and cupboard doors. Since the glass is reflective rather than opaque, the lamp itself is visible, and we would choose a soft LED globe or GLS shape over a small bright capsule. Keep it to indoor rooms, away from splashes and steam.

Mirrored glass shows fingerprints more readily than a painted shade, so a dry lint-free cloth over the sphere now and then is worth the minute it takes; keep sprays and damp cloths away from the lamp holder. It carries a one year warranty.
