Miranda E27 Pendant Light 40cm Frosted - Satin Nickel

A frosted white glass globe hangs from a slim satin nickel suspension, giving a clean round shape that reads as quiet sculpture when it is off and a soft, even glow when it is on. At 40cm across, the sphere is large enough to hold a room on its own, with no pattern or fussy detail to compete with. The frosting spreads the light and keeps the lamp inside from glaring, which is much of the appeal here. It takes an E27 lamp, and we would choose a warm white LED globe so the shape stays evenly filled.

We reach for this size over a dining table, a kitchen island or a generous hallway, where a smaller sphere can look lost. The drop range is wide, so it can sit low and companionable over a table or hang higher where there is more room above your head. It is a dry indoor fitting, at home in living rooms, bedrooms and dining rooms rather than bathrooms or a covered porch. Paired with a suitable dimmable lamp and a matching dimmer, it will come down to a low, easy level for the evening.

The glass makes up the whole of the shade, with the metalwork kept narrow so it stays out of the way of the shape. To keep it looking right, lift dust from the globe with a dry microfibre cloth now and then, and use a lightly damp cloth on the nickel if fingerprints show, letting everything dry before the power goes back on. What size lamp should I fit?

An E27 lamp of up to 20W. A GLS A60, a G80 globe or a T280 tubular all work; a globe shape suits the frosted sphere best, as the glass shows a little of whatever sits inside it.

How far down does it hang?

The drop runs from 660mm to 2000mm, measured from the ceiling to the bottom of the globe, so it covers everything from a standard ceiling height to a tall stairwell.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you fit a dimmable lamp and a compatible dimmer switch. Neither the lamp nor the dimmer comes with the pendant.

How big is the glass globe?

The sphere measures 400mm in diameter, and the body of the fitting stands 500mm tall including the fixed part of the suspension.

How should I clean the frosted glass?

A dry microfibre cloth removes dust without leaving streaks. For marks, a barely damp cloth is enough; avoid abrasive creams and solvents, as they can dull both the frosting and the satin nickel.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated for dry indoor rooms only, so keep it to living spaces, bedrooms, kitchens and hallways.
