Description

The globe here is a full 40cm ball of glass, mirrored in copper over clear, so the surface catches the room like a dark polished bauble while the light is off. Switch it on and the lamp reads through the tint, throwing warm reflections rather than a broad even wash. The suspension, ceiling plate and lampholder cover are finished to match the glass, and the drop adjusts to roughly two metres for taller rooms.

We would hang it over a dining table or a kitchen island, where a large sphere sitting near eye height does more for a room than a row of small shades. It also suits a stairwell or a generous hallway, given the length of flex available. Because the glass is tinted rather than opaque, the light it gives is decorative and low key, so in a working kitchen we would run downlights or under-cabinet strips alongside and let this one set the mood. It takes an E27 lamp of up to 20W, and it will dim if you fit a dimmable lamp and a compatible dimmer switch.

Glass and metal throughout, with the copper tone carried across both parts so nothing jars against the other. Mirrored surfaces show fingerprints and dust sooner than frosted ones, so give the sphere an occasional wipe with a clean dry microfibre cloth, power off and the lamp cold, and keep sprays and anything gritty away from the coating.
