Description
The Mirai is a low armchair with a tubular metal frame and ribbed leather across the back and the seat. The leather is buffalo hide in a dark chocolate brown, padded into horizontal bands that run the width of the back and carry on through the seat. The frame is cast iron under a brass finish, bent in one continuous line that makes each arm and drops into the front leg, with a brass rail crossing behind the back. The chair stands 79cm tall and 68cm wide, and the seat sits 38cm from the floor.
At 38cm the seat is low and at 54cm it is deep for that height, so this is a chair to sit back in rather than one to work at a table from. It suits a reading corner, the end of a bedroom or a place beside a hearth. At 83cm front to back it wants clearance from the wall, and the back legs splay out behind, so it takes a little more floor than the seat suggests.
The frame is iron and the upholstery is buffalo leather. The hide is aged before it is made up, which is where the depth of tone comes from, and it is dyed with vegetable extract and tree bark, so the colour goes on enriching with age. The leather is a by-product of herds kept by local herders. The Mirai is made in this one form and this one colour.

Frequently Asked
How high is the seat?
38cm from the floor, with 54cm of seat depth. The chair is 79cm tall overall.
What is the frame made of?
Cast iron, finished in brass.
Is the leather real?
Yes, buffalo hide. It is a by-product of herds kept by local herders, and it is dyed with vegetable extract and tree bark.
Is it made in other colours?
No. The Mirai is made in chocolate brown only.
How do I look after the leather?
Wipe it clean with a soft dry cloth, and keep chemicals and household cleaners off the finish. To stop the hide drying out and cracking, feed it now and then with a specialist leather product, or with petroleum jelly or flax oil.
