Description

The Mercury T1.6A is a slow blow fuse in a 5x20mm glass cartridge format, rated to 250V and IEC approved for use in sensitive electrical equipment. The slow blow (time-delay) construction allows controlled inrush currents during equipment start-up without blowing, while still interrupting the circuit if a sustained fault occurs.

Designed for protection of low-power electronics, audio equipment, control circuits and appliances where transient start-up loads exceed the steady-state current draw, the fuse sits in a standard 5x20mm panel-mount or PCB-mount fuse holder. The 1.6A rating handles continuous currents up to that threshold, with the time-delay element tolerating brief spikes during motor start, transformer energising or capacitor charging.

The glass cartridge body allows visual inspection of the fuse element without removing it from the holder — a blown fuse shows a broken filament visible through the clear tube. The nickel-plated metal end caps provide corrosion resistance and maintain good contact in the fuse holder terminals. IEC approval confirms the fuse meets international safety and performance standards for electrical protection devices.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between slow blow and fast-acting fuses?

Slow blow (time-delay) fuses tolerate brief current spikes without blowing, making them suitable for equipment with inrush currents at start-up. Fast-acting fuses blow immediately when current exceeds the rating, protecting against short circuits but unsuitable for loads with transient peaks.

What fuse holder does it fit?

The 5x20mm cartridge fits any standard 5x20mm panel-mount or PCB-mount fuse holder. Common holder types include chassis-mount clips, inline cable holders and printed circuit board sockets.

Can I use this in place of a fast-acting fuse?

Not recommended. If the original equipment specified a fast-acting fuse, replacing it with a slow blow type reduces short-circuit protection and may allow fault currents to persist longer than the circuit design intended. Always match the fuse type to the equipment specification.

Is the fuse reusable after it blows?

No. Once blown, the fuse must be replaced. Attempting to repair or bypass a blown fuse removes circuit protection and creates a fire hazard.
