Description

The Mercury Digital Pocket Scale is a 50g capacity precision scale accurate to 0.001g (one thousandth of a gram), built for weighing gemstones, precious metals, jewellery components and laboratory samples where sub-milligram accuracy matters. The stainless steel weighing platform measures 40mm square and reads weight in six selectable modes: grams, carats, pennyweights, grains, ounces and troy ounces.

Designed for jewellers, watchmakers, collectors and hobbyists who need portable precision, the scale folds into a protective hard case approximately 130mm x 75mm x 20mm when closed, small enough to carry in a tool bag or coat pocket. The backlit LCD display includes overload and instability warnings, while the tare function allows you to zero out the weight of a container or weighing paper before adding the item being measured. A counting mode tallies identical small components (screws, findings, beads) by sample weight.

The scale ships with a 50g calibration weight and a pair of tweezers for handling small items without transferring skin oils or disturbing the reading. Calibration is user-accessible via the button interface, allowing recalibration in the field if the scale is moved between locations with different altitudes or temperatures. Auto power-off engages after 60 seconds of inactivity to preserve battery life. Runs on 2 AAA batteries (sold separately).

Frequently Asked

What does 0.001g accuracy mean in practical terms?

0.001g is one milligram. This level of precision allows you to measure a single small diamond or a few grains of powder with repeatable accuracy. It's the standard requirement for gemstone trading and precious metal refining.

How do I calibrate the scale?

The scale includes a 50g calibration weight. Place the scale on a stable, level surface, enter calibration mode via the button interface (see the manual), and place the 50g weight on the platform when prompted. The scale will store the calibration until reset or moved to a significantly different environment.

Can it weigh items heavier than 50g?

No. Exceeding the 50g maximum load will trigger an overload warning on the display and may damage the internal load cell. If you need to weigh heavier items, use a scale with a higher capacity rating.

What are the tweezers for?

The supplied tweezers allow you to place and remove small items (gemstones, watch parts, sample powders) without touching the weighing platform with your fingers, which can transfer oils and residue that affect accuracy over time.
