Description

The Mercury cable tie is a 4.8x380mm black nylon zip tie rated to hold up to 181lb (82kg) tensile load. Each tie measures 380mm long and 4.8mm wide, providing enough length to bundle thick cable runs, multiple cable groups, or fix items to structural supports. The ratchet head locks one-way and cannot be released without cutting, ensuring secure long-term retention.

Designed for AV installations, stage rigging, electrical panel management, and CCTV cable routing, the ties work across a temperature range of -40°C to 85°C, covering outdoor winter use through to warm equipment cabinets and attic spaces. The 380mm length suits bundles of up to approximately 110mm diameter, depending on how tightly the tie is pulled. Black ties reduce visibility on dark cable runs and against black mounting hardware.

The nylon compound resists UV degradation better than cheaper polypropylene alternatives, reducing brittleness over time when used outdoors. Each tie features a serrated internal track and a pawl inside the head that grips the track teeth to prevent slippage under load. Supplied in a pack of 100, the ties are suitable for both one-off domestic cable management and bulk commercial installations.

Frequently Asked

What diameter bundle can a 380mm tie hold?

A 380mm cable tie can encircle bundles of approximately 110-115mm diameter when pulled tight. Looser applications or bundling around square or irregular objects will reduce the effective diameter.

Can these be used outdoors?

Yes. The nylon material and -40°C to 85°C temperature rating cover outdoor use in UK climates. UV resistance is better than polypropylene ties, but over multiple years of direct sun exposure some surface degradation may occur.

Are the ties reusable?

No. The ratchet head locks one-way and cannot be released without cutting. Once tightened, the tie must be cut off to be removed.

What's the difference between 4.8mm and wider cable ties?

The 4.8mm width provides a good balance between strength and flexibility for most cable bundling tasks. Wider ties (e.g. 7.6mm or 9mm) offer higher load ratings but are stiffer and harder to thread through tight spaces.
