Description

These Mercury 6 x 32mm slow blow fuses carry an 8A rating with a 250V voltage threshold and a time-delay response that tolerates brief current peaks without blowing. The slow blow characteristic allows appliances with inductive loads or high surge currents at startup to draw their initial peak before the fuse reacts, protecting the circuit from sustained overloads while avoiding nuisance trips during normal operation.

Designed for use in appliances with motors, transformers, and power supplies where startup current can exceed the steady-state running current, the fuses comply with IEC standards for dimensional accuracy and breaking capacity. The 6 x 32mm glass tube body with nickel-plated brass end caps fits standard fuseholders in AV equipment, amplifiers, battery chargers, and small appliance circuits rated at 250V or below.

The transparent glass body allows visual confirmation of the fuse element condition — a broken element or discolouration of the glass indicates the fuse has blown. The time-delay element inside the tube is rated to withstand momentary current peaks up to several times the nominal 8A rating for short durations before interrupting the circuit, making it well-suited to circuits where brief surges are expected as part of normal operation.

Frequently Asked

What is the difference between slow blow and fast blow fuses?

A slow blow fuse has a time-delay element that allows brief current peaks without blowing, making it suitable for appliances with high surge currents at startup. A fast blow fuse reacts immediately to any current above its rated threshold, making it better for protecting sensitive electronics that cannot tolerate overloads.

What applications are these fuses used in?

Typical applications include AV amplifiers, PA systems, battery chargers, power supplies, motors and transformers where the startup current exceeds the steady-state running current. The 8A rating suits circuits drawing up to around 2,000W on 250V mains.

Are these fuses IEC compliant?

Yes. The fuses comply with IEC standards for dimensional accuracy and breaking capacity, ensuring they fit standard 6 x 32mm fuseholders and provide consistent performance across different appliances and installations.

How can I tell if the fuse has blown?

The transparent glass body allows you to see the internal fuse element. A broken element or blackened glass indicates the fuse has blown and needs replacing.
