Description

The Mercury 6 x 32mm T1.25A slow blow fuse is a time-delay glass-body fuse rated for 1.25A at 250V, designed to handle brief startup current surges without blowing. The slow blow (T-rated) element tolerates transient overloads of 2-3 times the rated current for short periods, making it suitable for protecting audio equipment, power supplies and other devices with inductive loads or high inrush currents on switch-on.

Commonly used in amplifiers, mixing desks, PA equipment, DJ controllers and mains-powered audio devices where the startup current briefly exceeds the running current, the 6 x 32mm form factor fits standard panel-mount fuse holders and PCB-mount clips. The glass body allows visual inspection of the fuse element to confirm whether it has blown without needing a multimeter.

The fuse carries IEC approval, confirming it meets international safety standards for fuse breaking capacity and voltage rating. The 6 x 32mm dimension refers to the body diameter and overall length including the metal caps at each end, which is a standard size in European and Asian equipment but less common than the 5 x 20mm size in UK domestic appliances.

Frequently Asked

What does 'slow blow' mean?

A slow blow fuse (also called time-delay or T-rated) is designed to tolerate brief overcurrent surges without blowing, typically 2-3 times the rated current for a few seconds. This prevents nuisance blowing when equipment with motors, transformers or capacitors draws high current on startup before settling to normal running current.

What equipment uses 6 x 32mm fuses?

Audio equipment (amplifiers, mixing desks, powered speakers), DJ controllers, power supplies, lighting controllers and some imported electronic devices use this size. It is less common in UK domestic appliances, which typically use 5 x 20mm or BS1362 cartridge fuses.

Can I use a fast-blow fuse instead?

Not if the equipment specifies a slow blow fuse. Fast-blow fuses will blow on the startup surge and need frequent replacement. Always replace with the same fuse type and rating specified by the equipment manufacturer.

How do I know if the fuse has blown?

The glass body allows you to see the fuse element inside. If the thin metal wire is intact and continuous, the fuse is good. If the wire is broken or shows a black scorch mark, the fuse has blown and needs replacing.
