Description

The Mercury F200mA is a 5 x 20mm quick blow glass fuse rated to 200mA at 250V, designed for fast-acting overcurrent protection in sensitive electronic circuits. The glass body houses a thin metal filament that melts immediately when current exceeds the rated 200mA threshold, interrupting the circuit before components downstream can be damaged.

Used in precision electronics, audio equipment, test instruments, and control boards where rapid fault interruption is critical to protect semiconductor components and ICs. The 5 x 20mm format is a standard fuse size across European and international equipment, fitting inline fuse holders, panel-mount blocks, and PCB-mounted clips. The quick blow (fast-acting) characteristic means the fuse does not tolerate inrush current or brief surges, making it unsuitable for motor circuits or power supplies with large capacitors at switch-on.

The glass body allows visual inspection of the filament to confirm whether the fuse has blown without needing a continuity tester. The nickel-plated brass end caps provide reliable contact in standard fuse holders and resist corrosion in typical indoor environments. Each fuse measures 5mm diameter by 20mm length and complies with IEC standards for low-voltage fuse performance.

Frequently Asked

What does F200mA mean?

The F denotes a fast-acting or quick blow characteristic, meaning the fuse interrupts the circuit immediately when current exceeds the rated threshold. 200mA is the current rating — the fuse will blow when continuous current exceeds 0.2A.

Can this fuse handle inrush current?

No. Quick blow fuses are designed to interrupt overcurrent immediately and do not tolerate brief surges or inrush typical of power supplies, transformers or motors. For circuits with inrush current, use a time-delay (T-rated) fuse instead.

Is it resettable?

No. This is a single-use fuse. Once the filament melts, the fuse must be replaced.

What equipment uses 200mA fuses?

Typical applications include precision test instruments, audio pre-amplifiers, control boards in scientific equipment, and low-power signal processing circuits where rapid fault protection is needed to prevent damage to semiconductors.
