Description

The Mercury is a 16A waterproof CEE line plug rated to IP44, designed for connecting portable equipment to outdoor or industrial power supplies where protection from water ingress is required. The plug features a blue housing conforming to IEC60309-1/2 standards, with three brass contact pins and a moveable strain relief gland that allows cable entry adjustment during installation.

Designed for temporary power distribution at outdoor events, building sites, workshop equipment and garden machinery, the IP44 rating protects against splashing water from any direction and solid objects larger than 1mm. The terminal screws inside the housing provide secure connections to incoming cable cores, whilst the strain relief clamps the outer sheath to prevent cable pull-out under load or handling.

The plug accepts flexible cable typically between 1.5mm² and 2.5mm² cross-section, suitable for most 16A-rated extension cables and portable appliance leads. The blue colour coding indicates 230-250V single-phase operation in the IEC60309 system, preventing accidental connection to incompatible voltage sockets. The white ribbed body provides a textured grip for connecting and disconnecting under wet or gloved-hand conditions.

Current rating 16A

Frequently Asked

What does IP44 mean?

IP44 indicates the plug is protected against splashing water from any direction and solid objects larger than 1mm. It is suitable for outdoor use but not for submersion or direct hosing.

What cable size does it accept?

The plug accepts flexible cable typically between 1.5mm² and 2.5mm² cross-section. The moveable strain relief adjusts to clamp different cable diameters securely.

Is it compatible with standard UK 13A sockets?

No. This is a CEE industrial plug conforming to IEC60309-1/2 and requires a matching CEE 16A socket. It cannot be used with domestic UK 13A sockets.

Can it be used with generators?

Yes, provided the generator has a matching CEE 16A socket rated for 230-250V single-phase output. The blue colour coding confirms voltage compatibility.
