Description
The Mercury 18W switch-mode power supply delivers adjustable DC output across seven voltage settings (3V, 4.5V, 5V, 6V, 7.5V, 9V, 12V) at a constant 1500mA current. The unit accepts 100-240Vac mains input at 50/60Hz, making it compatible with UK and international mains supplies. Eight interchangeable DC barrel plugs and a USB adaptor are included, covering the majority of small consumer electronics, LED lighting kits, routers, radios, and portable devices.
The power supply uses switch-mode topology rather than traditional linear transformer design, which reduces energy loss as heat and cuts standby power consumption. The voltage selector dial on the body allows output to be changed without swapping units, so a single supply can serve multiple devices at different voltages. The polarity of the output is centre-positive on all barrel plugs, and the USB adaptor follows standard 5V USB-A specification.
The compact 82 x 52 x 46mm housing weighs 144g and fits behind furniture or in equipment racks without occupying significant space. The 1500mA output is sufficient for most small consumer devices but will not support high-draw equipment like laptops or amplifiers. The supply carries CE certification and includes overcurrent protection to prevent damage if the connected load exceeds the rated output.

Frequently Asked
What devices can this power supply run?
The Mercury 18W supply suits LED lighting strips, small routers, DAB radios, portable speakers, USB-charged devices via the included adaptor, and other consumer electronics rated up to 1500mA at their operating voltage. It will not power laptops, guitar amplifiers, or other high-draw equipment.
How is the voltage changed?
A rotary selector dial on the body of the unit allows the output voltage to be set to 3V, 4.5V, 5V, 6V, 7.5V, 9V or 12V. The unit must be unplugged from the mains before changing the voltage setting.
What is the polarity of the DC output?
All barrel plugs are wired centre-positive. Check your device's polarity marking before connection — connecting a centre-negative device will damage the equipment.
Does it reduce energy consumption compared to traditional adaptors?
Yes. Switch-mode power supplies convert mains voltage more efficiently than linear transformer-based designs, reducing heat generation and standby power draw. The Mercury supply uses approximately 25% less energy than an equivalent linear adaptor of the same output rating.
