Description

The Mei 38 is a ribbon cone pendant light from our Mei range, with a shade of translucent ribbon laid in close, upright pleats that glows when the light is on. The shade tapers out from a narrow top to a wide lower edge, finished with a pleated band, and it comes in Cream Translucent Ribbon or White Translucent Ribbon. It is made of iron, with the ribbon forming the shade. The shade is 38cm across and 20cm tall, the stem is 41cm long, the ceiling canopy is 12cm across, and the maximum drop is 157.5cm. It takes one E27 bulb of up to 15W, which is not included: the bulb is sold separately and gives the pendant its light.

We think it suits a dining room best, hung low over the table, and it works just as well in a living room over a coffee table or beside a favourite chair. Hung in pairs or in a row, it also sits well over a long desk in a study, or above the tables of a café or restaurant. Choose Cream Translucent Ribbon for a warmer tone that goes well with wood and natural plaster, or White Translucent Ribbon for a cleaner, brighter look against pale walls. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms indoors only.

The pleats run in fine vertical lines right round the cone, so the shade has the same texture from every side of the room, and because the ribbon is translucent the glow comes through the whole shade as well as from the open base. It is a 230V mains fitting, wired in to the mains by an electrician, so have a qualified electrician install it. Check the height of your ceiling against the 157.5cm maximum drop before you choose where it hangs, so the shade sits at a comfortable height over the table. Our photographs show the cream version.
