Description

The Hinkley Mayflower is a 533mm diameter inverted bowl pendant built around a bronze-finished metal frame with etched amber glass. Three E27 bulb holders sit inside the bowl, each housed in a yoke mount that supports the glass from the rim. Cast metal tension knobs connect the yoke arms to the central stem, doubling as structural joints and period-appropriate detailing that references early 20th-century gas-to-electric conversion fittings.

Designed for dining tables, kitchen islands and hallway positions where ambient downlight is needed from ceiling heights between 2.4m and 4.5m, the Mayflower pairs a 730mm glass bowl drop with up to 3048mm of adjustable chain. The chain length can be shortened on installation to position the pendant 800mm from the ceiling (minimum drop) or extended to 3848mm for tall stairwells and double-height entrance halls. The etched amber glass softens the output from three 60W-maximum E27 bulbs (sold separately) and gives a warm-toned wash in both daylight and evening use.

The bronze finish carries a hand-rubbed patina that varies slightly across the casting, with darker tones settling in recesses around the tension knobs and lighter bronze on the raised edges of the canopy. The 533mm bowl width suits rooms of 4m x 4m or larger, where the pendant can act as primary lighting over a 6-8 person dining table or a 2.5-3m kitchen island. The etched treatment on the amber glass conceals the bulb filaments or LED arrays when viewed from below, preventing glare while maintaining transparency when lit.

The Mayflower takes three E27 (Edison screw) bulbs up to 60W each. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with warm-white LED bulbs between 8-12W and 2700K for dining or kitchen use.

Can the chain length be adjusted after installation?

No. The chain is adjusted during installation by removing or adding links before wiring, then secured permanently. Choose the drop height carefully based on your ceiling height and table or island position.

What ceiling height is needed?

The minimum 800mm drop works in standard 2.4m ceiling rooms when the pendant hangs over a table or island. For higher ceilings the chain can be extended to the maximum 3848mm drop, which suits double-height hallways and stairwells.

Is the glass replaceable if damaged?

The etched amber glass bowl is a specific Hinkley component. Contact us if replacement glass is needed — we can order spares directly from Hinkley for this range.
