Description

Matin is a 60cm round mirror with raised drops applied by hand across the lower part of the disc. The drops stand proud of the surface rather than being printed into it, so each one catches light on its own and the cluster reads as water on glass.

They are scattered rather than patterned, which is what makes the piece look observed rather than designed, and it is also why no two are quite alike. The clear upper part of the disc is a working mirror, so this hangs happily in a cloakroom or a bathroom where you actually need to see yourself, with the decoration below the useful part. At 60cm it is small enough for a narrow wall and it hangs on a rotating suspension, which the specification below records; we have no photograph of the fitting and will not describe how it turns. It is rated bathroom proof. At 4kg it is the lightest mirror in this group.

The drops are applied to mirrored glass and the mirror is frameless, so the rim is the cut edge of the glass. Clean it with cleaner sprayed onto a soft cloth and go gently over the drops, wiping around them rather than scrubbing across, since anything applied to a surface wears before the surface does. Two screws, washers and plugs are supplied and nothing needs assembling. A 100cm version of the same design is made if the wall can take a larger disc. Because the drops are raised, the mirror also throws a faint texture of shadows onto the wall behind it when light comes from the side.
