Description
Matin L is a round wall mirror one metre across, scattered with raised drops applied by hand across the silvered glass. They read as dew caught on a cold morning, gathered more thickly towards one side and thinning out across the face, and because each one is placed by hand no two mirrors carry the same scatter. The mirror turns on its fixing through a full circle, so the denser side can be brought wherever it is wanted. The design is by Laurène Guarneri, who works in Paris.
The drops only show properly when light crosses them, so this wants a wall with daylight or a lamp to one side rather than a flat lit corner. Turned one way the scatter gathers low and reads as weather on a window; turned the other it sits across the top. It suits a hallway, a bedroom or a bathroom, where it is rated to go. At 11kg and 2.5cm deep it is a one person lift and sits close to the wall, with two screws, washers and plugs supplied and nothing to assemble. Because the drops stand proud of the glass they collect dust more readily than a flat pane.
The mirror is mirrored glass with drops applied by hand, on a rotating suspension. Clean the plain glass with cleaner sprayed onto a soft cloth and dust between the drops with a dry brush rather than working a cloth over them. The drops vary from a few millimetres to a couple of centimetres and each one bends what is behind it, so against a window or planting they read as small lenses rather than as texture. Seven year warranty, made in Belgium.

Frequently Asked
Are the drops raised?
Yes. They are applied by hand and stand proud of the glass, so light catches them from the side.
Will my mirror match the photographs?
Not exactly. Each drop is placed by hand, so the scatter differs on every piece.
What does the rotating suspension do?
It lets the mirror turn through a full circle, so the denser side of the scatter can face whichever way suits the wall.
Can it be used in a bathroom?
Yes. It is rated bathroom proof, so steam and humidity are not a problem.
How should it be cleaned?
Cleaner sprayed onto a soft cloth for the plain glass, and a dry brush between the drops.
