Mateo ES 25W Square GU10 Recessed Downlight - Black

The Mateo ES is a square recessed downlight that drops into the ceiling to sit flush with the surface, putting the light where you want it without any visible body below the plasterboard. It takes a single GU10 lamp in the larger ES-111 reflector format, drawing up to 25W, so you can pick the beam and colour temperature to match the room. In US terms a recessed downlight like this is sold as a can light, and the square aperture gives a crisper, more architectural look than the usual round trim.

Because the lamp is swappable rather than integrated, the Mateo ES suits kitchens, hallways, living rooms and home offices where you may want to change the beam or brightness over time. Run as a row, square downlights wash an even spread of light across a worktop, table or seating zone, and the directional ES-111 reflector lets you graze a wall or pick out a feature. Allow enough void above the ceiling for the 150mm body depth, and space the fittings to suit your ceiling height so the light overlaps cleanly between each unit.

Built from aluminium alloy with a black finish, the fitting measures 195 × 195 × 150 mm and weighs 860g, giving it a solid feel in the ceiling. It runs on 220 to 240V AC mains and is rated IP20, so it is for dry indoor rooms only and should be kept out of bathrooms or any damp location. The GU10 ES-111 lamp is supplied separately, leaving you free to specify the wattage, beam angle and tone you need. The Mateo range also includes finishes to match other fittings in the same room.

Can I dim the Mateo ES?

The fitting itself does not control dimming; that depends on the GU10 ES-111 lamp you fit and the wall dimmer used with it. Choose a dimmable GU10 lamp rated up to 25W and pair it with a compatible LED dimmer for smooth control.

What cut-out size does it need?

The fitting recesses into a square aperture cut to suit its 195 × 195 mm body, which is the hole the unit drops through and is separate from the visible trim face. Allow at least 150mm of clear void above the ceiling for the body depth before you cut.

Is a bulb included?

No, the GU10 ES-111 lamp is supplied separately so you can choose the beam angle, wattage up to 25W and colour temperature to suit the room. This also makes it easy to swap the lamp later without replacing the fitting.

How do I clean it?

Wipe the black aluminium trim with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth once the lamp has cooled, avoiding harsh solvents that could mark the finish. Keep cleaning to a minimum around the lamp itself and never use water near the live fitting.
