Description
Maro is a wall mirror 120cm wide by 90cm high, printed with a seascape across the lower part of the glass and left fully mirrored above the horizon. The effect depends on that division: the printed water occupies the bottom, the reflective sky the top, and anything standing in front of it appears where the two meet. The blue is in the print rather than in a tint, so it stays the same colour whatever the light does. The design is by Esther Everaert.
It is a landscape format piece and works above something horizontal: a sideboard, a bed, a sofa, a bath in a bathroom where it is rated to go. It hangs in one direction, since a seascape has a top and a bottom. Hang it low enough that a person standing in front of it appears near the horizon rather than well above it, which is where the design does its work. At 13kg and 2cm deep it is a one person lift and sits close to the wall, with two screws, washers and plugs supplied and nothing to assemble. It wants a plain wall and reasonable light on it.
The mirror is printed and mirrored glass in a black metal frame. Clean it with cleaner sprayed onto a soft cloth rather than onto the glass, and wipe along the horizon rather than across it so the join between printed and mirrored is not left marked. The frame is a slim black metal profile that stops the printed edge fraying visually, and at 2cm deep the whole piece sits almost flat to the wall. Seven year warranty, made in Belgium.

Frequently Asked
Is the sea printed or tinted?
Printed onto the glass, so the blue holds its colour whatever the light in the room does.
Which part reflects?
The sky above the horizon is fully mirrored. The water below it is printed.
Can it be used in a bathroom?
Yes. It is rated bathroom proof, so steam and humidity are not a problem.
How high should it be hung?
Low enough that someone standing in front appears near the horizon, which is where the design works.
What size is it and what does it weigh?
120cm wide by 90cm high, weighing 13kg.
