Description

The Marin SN is a recessed downlight built around a single MR16 lamp on a Gx5.3 cap, drawing up to 10W and running on a 12V supply (12V AC or 12V DC). It sits flush in the ceiling within a round steel frame finished in matte nickel, measuring Ø85mm across and 37mm deep. In US terms a fitting of this kind is what's often called a recessed can light, the small low-voltage type that drops into a ceiling cut-out and sits level with the surface. The MR16 lamp is supplied separately, which lets the beam spread and colour temperature be chosen to suit the room.

Because it takes a 12V MR16, the Marin SN suits bathrooms, hallways, kitchens and landings where a low-voltage spotlight makes sense, and several can be set out in a row or grid to wash a ceiling evenly. Coverage depends on the MR16 lamp fitted rather than the housing itself, so plan the spacing around the beam angle and output of the chosen lamp, then space the fittings to overlap their pools of light for a balanced spread. Its compact Ø85mm body keeps the ceiling line clean and works well at standard domestic ceiling heights.

The housing is steel with a matte nickel finish and a round trim, holding the lamp neatly against the ceiling. Its IP44 rating makes it splash-resistant and suited to bathroom zones and covered, sheltered outdoor spots such as a porch or carport, though it should be kept clear of fully exposed positions, direct water jets and submersion. The fitting runs at 12V and needs a suitable low-voltage transformer, sized to the total lamp load, which is supplied separately. Dimming depends on the MR16 lamp and transformer combination chosen. The Marin range includes matching downlights for a consistent look across a scheme.

Frequently Asked

What size cut-out does the Marin SN need?

The fitting has an overall diameter of Ø85mm, so the ceiling cut-out is the recess hole the housing drops into rather than the visible trim. Check the recommended aperture against the housing before cutting, and confirm there is 37mm of clearance above the ceiling for the body and lamp.

Does it need a transformer?

Yes. The Marin SN runs on 12V and takes a Gx5.3 MR16 lamp, so it needs a low-voltage transformer or driver, supplied separately. Size the transformer to the total wattage of all the lamps on the circuit, allowing for the 10W maximum per fitting.

Can it be used in a bathroom?

Its IP44 rating makes it splash-resistant, so it is suited to bathroom zones away from direct water and to sheltered outdoor spots like a porch. Keep it clear of fully exposed positions, direct water jets and any submersion.

How should the downlight be cleaned?

Switch off the supply and let the lamp cool, then wipe the matte nickel trim with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid abrasive pads and solvent cleaners, which can mark the finish, and make sure the fitting is fully dry before restoring power.
