Description
The Marin AB is a round recessed downlight built around a single MR16 lamp on a Gx5.3 cap, drawing up to 10W from a 12V AC or DC supply. It drops into the ceiling for a flush, low-profile finish, with the fitting itself measuring just Ø85 mm across and sitting 37 mm deep. In US terms this is the recessed can light format, here scaled to a compact low-voltage trim rather than a mains downlight. The MR16 source lets you pick the lamp tone and beam to match the room, so the output is set by the bulb you fit rather than fixed at the fitting.
Being a low-voltage spot, the Marin AB works well in bathrooms and over basins, and in covered or sheltered outdoor spots such as a porch or carport ceiling, thanks to its IP44 splash rating. Indoors it suits kitchens, hallways and living spaces where several units share the lighting load, and the beam spread depends on the MR16 lamp chosen, so coverage scales with how many you space across the ceiling. For task areas like a vanity or worktop, group a few closer together; for general fill, spread them more widely.
The body is steel finished in matt brass, giving a warm metallic trim that reads cleanly against a painted or tiled ceiling. It recesses into the ceiling void and runs on 12V, so it pairs with a low-voltage transformer suited to MR16 lamps rather than connecting direct to mains. The IP44 rating keeps it clear of direct water jets and full exposure, so it is best kept to sheltered positions. The MR16 lamp is specified separately, letting you set wattage, tone and beam to suit. Kanlux offers the Marin range in further trim finishes if you need to match across rooms.

Frequently Asked
Does it need a transformer?
Yes. The Marin AB runs on 12V AC or DC, so it must be wired to a low-voltage transformer or driver rated for MR16 lamps rather than connected straight to the mains. Size the transformer to the total wattage of all the downlights on the circuit.
What cut-out hole does it need?
The fitting is Ø85 mm overall, so check the manufacturer cut-out diameter before drilling; this is the hole the body drops into and is slightly smaller than the visible trim. Confirm there is at least 37 mm of clear depth in the ceiling void for the recessed body.
Can it be used in a bathroom or outdoors?
It carries an IP44 splash rating, so it suits bathroom zones away from direct spray and sheltered outdoor spots such as a porch or carport ceiling. It should not be used in fully exposed positions, where it would face direct water jets, or anywhere it could be submerged.
How do I clean the downlight?
Switch off and let the lamp cool, then wipe the matt brass trim with a soft, dry or lightly damp cloth. Avoid abrasive pads or solvents, which can dull the brass finish over time.
