MAGfire 12V Rate of Rise Heat Detector A1R - White with Relay Base

The MAGfire RHD212 is a rate of rise heat detector built to EN54-5 A1R class specification, designed for conventional fire alarm systems running on 9-30VDC supply. The detector monitors ambient temperature and triggers an alarm when the rate of temperature increase exceeds the threshold defined by the A1R class specification, typically used to detect rapid-onset fires before smoke becomes visible.

Supplied with a relay base that mounts to a standard UK electrical back box or surface-mount base, the detector connects via two-wire conventional loop wiring and integrates with fire alarm control panels from ESP, Hochiki, C-TEC, Kentec and most other manufacturers using conventional detection zones. The relay base allows the detector head to be removed for cleaning or replacement without disconnecting the wiring, and the base can trigger auxiliary devices such as solenoid fire doors or zone annunciators.

The white ABS housing measures approximately 100mm diameter and 50mm height once mounted on the base, giving a low-profile ceiling presence suitable for commercial, industrial, educational and hospitality environments. The detector operates across a 9-30VDC range, making it compatible with both 12V and 24V fire alarm panels without requiring separate voltage models. EN54-5 certification confirms compliance with European fire detection standards and is often required for Buildings Regulations Approved Document B compliance in the UK.

What does A1R class mean?

A1R is an EN54-5 classification indicating a rate of rise heat detector that triggers when temperature increases faster than a defined threshold, typically around 10°C per minute. This class responds to rapid-onset fires earlier than fixed-temperature detectors but is less prone to false alarms from slow ambient temperature drift.

Can this be used on a two-wire conventional loop?

Yes. The detector connects to standard two-wire conventional fire alarm loops running at 9-30VDC and is compatible with most conventional fire alarm control panels. The relay base provides terminal connections for loop wiring and allows auxiliary devices to be triggered.

Is the detector head removable?

Yes. The white detector head twists off the relay base for cleaning, maintenance or replacement without needing to disconnect the wiring from the base. This allows periodic cleaning of the sensor chamber without disrupting the fire alarm loop.

What environments is this detector suitable for?

Rate of rise heat detectors are typically used in kitchens, plant rooms, boiler rooms, workshops and other environments where smoke detectors would false-alarm due to steam, cooking fumes, dust or exhaust. The IP30 rating limits use to dry indoor environments only.
