Description

The LYYT in-line RGB LED strip amplifier is a miniature repeater device designed to extend RGB LED tape runs beyond the capacity of a single controller. It accepts a 5-24Vdc power input via a DC jack socket and outputs a 4-pin RGB signal, allowing additional lengths of RGB tape to be driven without voltage drop or colour fade. The amplifier measures 42 x 13 x 5mm and weighs 3g, making it small enough to be concealed behind tape mounting channels or within ceiling voids.

RGB LED tape installations longer than 5m typically require signal amplification to maintain consistent brightness and colour accuracy across the full run. This amplifier sits between the controller and the extended tape section, receiving the RGB control signal from one end and re-amplifying it with fresh power from the DC socket. The 100mm wire tails on input and output provide enough length to make connections without additional extension leads in most installations.

The amplifier handles continuous current of 3 x 2A (one 2A channel per colour: red, green, blue) with a peak rating of 3 x 4A. This means it can drive approximately 5m of standard-density RGB tape or 3m of high-density tape per amplifier, depending on the tape's power draw per metre. Multiple amplifiers can be daisy-chained to extend runs further, with each amplifier requiring its own DC power feed to avoid overloading a single supply.

Frequently Asked

How much LED tape can this amplifier drive?

The amplifier handles up to 3 x 4A peak current, which translates to approximately 5m of standard-density RGB tape or 3m of high-density tape, depending on the specific power draw per metre of your chosen tape. Check the tape's current rating and multiply by length to confirm it stays within the 2A continuous or 4A peak per colour channel.

Can multiple amplifiers be used on one run?

Yes. Multiple amplifiers can be daisy-chained to extend runs further. Each amplifier requires its own DC power feed — do not attempt to power multiple amplifiers from a single DC socket as this will exceed the supply's rated output and cause voltage drop.

What power supply is needed?

The amplifier accepts 5-24Vdc, so the power supply must match the voltage of your RGB LED tape. For example, 12V tape requires a 12V DC supply. The supply must provide enough current for the length of tape connected to the amplifier — typically 2-3A for a 5m run of standard-density 12V RGB tape.

Does the amplifier work with RGBW or single-colour tape?

No. This amplifier is designed specifically for RGB (3-channel) tape with a 4-pin connector. For RGBW tape you would need a 5-channel amplifier, and for single-colour tape a simpler 2-wire amplifier is appropriate.
