Description

The Luto CTX is a compact round recessed downlight built to take a single MR16 reflector lamp on a Gx5.3 cap, running at 12V (AC or DC) and rated up to 10W. In US terms this is a recessed can light, here in a small trim-only form that drops into the ceiling and lets the lamp itself set the beam and tone. It is supplied as a fitting without a lamp, so the brightness, colour temperature and beam spread come from the MR16 you pair with it, which keeps the same trim flexible across warm or cool schemes.

Its small Ø85 footprint suits tight ceiling layouts where a full-size downlight would crowd the space, such as alcoves, hallways, landings and over worktops as part of a wider run. Because output depends on the chosen MR16 lamp rather than an integrated LED, coverage is best planned by lamp count and spacing rather than a fixed figure: space several across a room for even ambient fill, or cluster them to pick out a feature wall or shelf. The fitting is indoor only at IP20, so keep it clear of bathrooms, porches and any damp or sheltered-outdoor location.

The body is aluminium alloy in a matt brass finish, giving a warm metallic trim that reads well against both painted and timber ceilings. It mounts recessed into the ceiling and carries a Gx5.3 holder for the MR16 lamp, with the 12V supply requiring a suitable transformer to step mains down. At 48g it is light to handle during install, and dimming is determined by the lamp and transformer combination you select rather than the fitting itself. What cut-out hole does it need?

The fitting itself measures Ø85mm overall, so plan the ceiling cut-out to match the trim's mounting spec rather than the overall diameter. Always check the dimension against the printed installation sheet before cutting. The fitting then drops into the prepared hole and is held by its spring clips.

Does it take a separate transformer?

Yes. It runs on 12V (AC or DC) with a Gx5.3 MR16 lamp, so a suitable 12V transformer or driver is needed to step the mains supply down. Size the transformer to the total wattage of all lamps on the circuit, up to 10W per fitting here.

Can I use it in a bathroom or outdoors?

No. This downlight is rated IP20, which means dry indoor use only. Keep it out of bathrooms, shower zones and any outdoor, porch or damp location, and choose an IP-rated fitting for those areas instead.

How do I clean the fitting?

Switch off and let any lamp cool, then wipe the matt brass trim with a soft dry or barely damp cloth. Avoid solvents and abrasive cleaners, which can mark the finish. Take care around the Gx5.3 lamp holder and do not let moisture reach the electrical contacts.
