Description

This is a recessed spotlight fitting for a GU10 lamp, with a tilting inner ring that lets you angle the beam away from straight down. The front bezel is chrome, with a slim flange that sits flat to the ceiling, and behind it a black cylindrical body carries the lamp holder and the sprung arms that hold the fitting in its cut-out. At the back, on a folded bracket, sits the quick connect terminal for the mains. The specification gives the wattage as 20W, the rating as IP20, and the fitting as dimmable.

Downlights like this suit hallways, landings, kitchens and living rooms where a flat ceiling line matters more than a hanging fitting. The tilt is the part worth planning around. A fixed downlight washes the floor directly beneath it, while an angled head can pick out a run of wall, a bookcase, a picture or the front edge of a worktop. Set a line of them a short distance out from the wall and aim them back at it, and you get an even wash instead of a row of bright pools on the floor. The chrome bezel sits happily with chrome socket plates, handles and rail fittings.

Dimming is stated by the manufacturer, and it is worth remembering that a fitting on a dimmer circuit only dims if the lamp in it is a dimmable type, so check the lamp packaging as well. Brightness and colour temperature come from the GU10 lamp rather than from the fitting, which means the character of the light can be changed later without going back into the ceiling. IP20 gives no protection against water, so these belong on dry indoor ceilings. Each one is sold singly, with a minimum order of one.
