Description

A wide circular plate that takes a flush fitting and drops it down into the room on a power cable, so a light made to sit tight against the ceiling can hang lower instead. The disc measures 74cm across, broad enough to sit under a large flush fitting without looking undersized, and the cable pays out to a full 3m where a room has the height for it. It is not a light in its own right: the lamps, the shade and the switching all belong to the fitting it carries.

We reach for this in stairwell voids, galleried landings and double-height hallways, the places where a flush fitting would sit so far up that the room below stays gloomy. It suits anyone who has settled on a flush design they like and simply wants it brought down to a useful level, over a dining table or in the centre of a tall sitting room. The drop can be short as well as long, so the same plate earns its place in a room of ordinary height where only a modest lowering is wanted.

The finish is polished chrome with silver, a mirror-bright surface with real substance behind it. Fingermarks show on plating like this, so we keep a dry microfibre cloth to hand and buff rather than scrub; household sprays and creams will dull the shine over time. Turn the circuit off before cleaning around the fitting it holds. It carries a two year warranty. We stock the plate in smaller diameters in this same chrome, and at this size in a gold finish if the metalwork wants to read warmer. Lamps belong to the fitting you hang from it, not to the plate.
