Description

Five clear wine shades hang from a round satin nickel ceiling plate measuring 45cm across, each one tapering out to an open mouth like a glass on its stem. The drops are adjustable, so the shades can be set level for a tidy horizontal line or staggered at different heights to follow a table or a stair void. Because the shades are clear, the lamp inside stays visible, and the fitting reads as light and airy rather than heavy overhead.

We reach for this one over a dining table, a kitchen island or a generous hallway where a single pendant would look mean. The clear shades throw very little shadow, which suits rooms where you want brightness at the table and a bit of sparkle above it. Each of the five lamp holders takes an E27 lamp up to 20W, and the fitting will dim if you pair suitable dimmable lamps with a compatible dimmer, neither of which comes with it. Decorative LED globes or squirrel cage lamps look particularly good behind clear glass, and we would choose a warm white for evening dining.

The satin nickel has a soft, low shine that keeps fingerprints and dust less obvious than a bright polished metal, and it sits happily alongside brushed steel appliances and pale timber. To keep the shades clear, switch the light off at the wall, let everything cool, then lift dust away with a soft brush before wiping the shades with a barely damp lint free cloth and drying them straight after. It is intended for dry rooms indoors, so kitchens and dining rooms rather than bathrooms or a covered porch. It carries a one year warranty. The wider Lori range runs to single light flush fittings in antique gold and polished chrome, with shade shapes from curved trapeziums to round globes, if you need something lower elsewhere in the house.
