Does the black fabric block all the light?

No. The internal lining diffuses light from the bulb outwards through the black pleated fabric, creating ambient glow rather than directing all light downwards. The pleats cast subtle shadow lines on nearby walls when the lamp is lit.

Can the pleated structure be cleaned?

Use a soft brush attachment on a vacuum cleaner set to low suction to remove dust from between the pleats. For marks on the fabric surface, a barely-damp microfibre cloth is acceptable, but avoid soaking the fabric or using cleaning sprays as these may stain or discolour the black finish.
