Description

Four S hooks, each 10.5cm long and made from iron bar about 7mm thick. Each one is bent into an S with a wide open curl at one end and a tighter curl at the other, and the bar tapers to a blunt point at both tips. The iron is dark grey and matt, and the surface is uneven along its length where it has been worked by hand, so no two of the four are bent to quite the same curve.

A hook of this kind hangs from something rather than fixing to a wall: over a rail, a pole, a pan rack or the edge of a bracket. The wide curl goes over the rail and the tighter one takes the load. They are made for pots and pans. The four space out along an iron rail, each one carrying a wooden board by a leather loop.

The hooks are iron, worked by hand by metal craftsmen using traditional methods, which is why the surface is uneven and the tone varies from hook to hook. Four come in a set. The same S hook is made in a brass colourway, and Laila also runs to hanging rails in two lengths for the hooks to sit on.
