Lahar Cast Metal Tall Side Table - Aged Black

The Lahar is a side table cast in aluminium: a flat round top 45cm across, carried on a slim turned column that swells and narrows twice down its length, standing on a wide flared foot. It is 61cm tall. The finish is aged black, warming towards bronze where the surface catches the light, and the sandcasting leaves faint markings and a fine texture across the metal rather than a smooth face.

The top is 45cm across, which takes a drink, a book and a small lamp without crowding. At 61cm it stands high for a side table, high enough to reach from a chair without leaning down, and the height also suits a plant or an object lifted clear of the floor. The foot is nearly as wide as the top, so the table holds steady when something is set down off centre. It stands beside a sofa.

The table is aluminium, sandcast: molten metal poured into a mould and then finished by hand. Every casting takes its own markings from the sand, so the texture of the surface and the way the aged black sits on it differ from table to table. At 4.2kg it can be lifted with one hand.

How big is it?

61cm tall, with a top 45cm across.

What is it made from?

Aluminium, sandcast and finished by hand.

Will every table look the same?

Close, but not identical. Sandcasting leaves its own markings on every piece.

How heavy is it?

4.2kg.

How do I look after it?

Wipe it regularly with a soft dry cloth. A soft cloth damped with a mild detergent solution will lift marks, but dry the surface straight away to stop watermarks. Keep harsh chemicals, solvents and silicone polish away from it, stand hot things on a mat, and take care with cutlery and pens, which will score the finish.
