Description

A low day bed built on a frame of solid mango wood, 200cm long by 90cm deep and 40cm high. Four turned legs carry it, each worked on the lathe into a run of rings and swells and left square where it meets the rails. The deck between the rails is woven by hand in a close flat plait, stretched rail to rail and taken round the outer edge of the frame. The wood is left natural, with nothing laid over the grain.

The deck measures 180 by 70cm at 39cm from the floor, which is room to lie full length or to seat three across, and it stands at about the height of a low sofa seat. Used as a bench it takes cushions along the back, and used as a day bed it takes a folded quilt at one end. It is not suitable for outdoor use.

The frame is mango wood and the deck is woven cotton. Every leg is turned individually, so the profile repeats but the grain does not, and the tone of the wood will shift over time. It weighs 23.8kg and is sold on its own; cushions are not included.
