Description

A ceramic pot 30cm tall and 27cm across, with straight sides, a shoulder that turns in near the top and a plain flat rim. The lower body is combed from the shoulder down to the base in fine vertical lines, set close together and cut to uneven depths. The glaze runs white where it has gathered in the grooves and along the shoulder, and thins to the sandy tone of the clay across the ribs between them.

The mouth is 23cm wide, so a plant goes straight in with its root ball rather than being dropped in still inside a nursery pot. At 30cm tall the pot lifts a plant well clear of a path or a step, standing behind the smaller size among low planting. It has drainage holes and is made for outdoors, and a stopper comes with it for closing the hole when the pot stands inside.

The pot is ceramic and is made in small batches. No two come out the same, because a reactive glaze moves in the kiln: the white runs further on some pots than on others, and the speckling varies over the whole surface. Kubo is made in this size and a smaller one, each in cream and in terracotta.

Frequently Asked

How big is the large Kubo planter?

30cm tall and 27cm across, with a mouth of 23cm.

Can a plant go straight into it?

Yes. It has drainage holes, and a stopper comes with it for closing the hole when the pot stands indoors.

Can it be left outside over winter?

It is made for outdoor use. Store it away or bring it inside for the winter months.

Why is no two the same?

The glaze is a reactive one and moves in the heat of the kiln, so the white runs to a different depth on every pot.

How do I look after it?

Give it a wash at least twice a year in warm soapy water so dust, dirt and mould do not build up on it, and keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners away.
