Description

The Knightsbridge TE4B is a non-contact voltage tester that detects AC voltage between 80V and 1000V without requiring physical contact with live conductors. The tester uses capacitive coupling to sense electric fields around live cables, terminals and switch gear, providing both visual LED indication and an audible beep when voltage is present.

Designed for electricians, facilities maintenance and DIY users checking for live circuits before working on installations, the TE4B fits in a tool belt or pocket at 159mm long and 27.5mm thick. The tester operates on two AAA batteries (sold separately) and features an on/off control switch to prevent accidental activation during storage or transport. The CAT III overvoltage category rating means it's suitable for use on fixed installations up to 1000V including distribution boards, sub-mains and final circuits.

The blue polycarbonate body provides impact resistance and electrical insulation, while the tapered white tip allows the sensor to be placed into tight spaces around terminals and cable entries. The IP20 rating makes this suitable for indoor dry electrical environments but not outdoor or damp locations. The on/off switch extends battery life between uses and prevents false alerts from ambient electromagnetic fields when the tester is off.

Frequently Asked

What does CAT III mean?

CAT III is an overvoltage category rating indicating the tester is designed for use on fixed installations including distribution boards, sub-mains and final circuits up to 1000V. It provides protection against transient voltage spikes typical in these applications.

Does it require batteries?

Yes. The TE4B operates on 2 x 1.5V AAA batteries, which are not included. The on/off switch helps extend battery life by preventing continuous operation when not in use.

Can it be used outdoors or in damp locations?

No. The IP20 rating means the tester is designed for dry indoor electrical environments only. It should not be used in outdoor, damp or wet conditions.

How does it indicate the presence of voltage?

The TE4B provides both visual indication via an LED light and an audible beep when AC voltage between 80V and 1000V is detected. Both alerts activate simultaneously when voltage is present.
