Description
The Kimitsu is a decorative bowl in black aluminium, shaped as a long, shallow oval that rises gently at each end like a boat. Its walls are an open lattice of branching, coral-like strands, so the surface beneath shows through the gaps. It is 61cm long, 25.5cm wide and 13cm high, which makes it a generous piece for a dining table or a sideboard, yet the low profile keeps it from blocking the view across the room.
We would put it where a long surface needs something to anchor it: down the centre of a dining table, along a sideboard or console, on a coffee table or a deep windowsill. Because the pattern is so open, it works well left empty as a piece of sculpture. If you would rather fill it, choose larger things that will not slip through the gaps, such as pine cones, dried seed heads or decorative spheres. As a piece of home decor it is meant for indoor rooms. The black suits a dark, moody scheme as easily as a pale, pared-back one, giving the eye a strong graphic line.
The body is aluminium throughout, and aluminium is a light metal that does not rust, so the bowl weighs only 1.15KG despite its length. That makes it easy to lift off the table when you need the space and easy to move from room to room as the seasons change. The black colour covers every strand of the lattice, inside and out, so it looks finished from whichever angle a guest sees it. Before you order, check that your table or shelf gives at least 61cm of length and 25.5cm of depth so the ends sit clear of the edge.

Frequently Asked
What material is the Kimitsu bowl?
It is aluminium, with the black colour covering every strand of the open lattice, and at 1.15KG it is easy to lift and move.
How big is the bowl?
It is 61cm long, 25.5cm wide and 13cm high, a long and shallow shape that suits a dining table, sideboard or console.
Can the bowl go outdoors?
We would keep it indoors. It is a piece of home decor, so it belongs inside on a table, sideboard, console or deep shelf.
Will small items fall through the lattice?
The pattern is very open, so small loose things can slip through the gaps. Larger pieces such as pine cones or decorative spheres sit well, or leave it empty as sculpture.
Which rooms suit the black finish?
The black works in a living room, dining room or hallway, and it reads clearly against pale wood, white walls or a light stone worktop.
