Kela Fabric Pendant Light - Off White

The Kela is a fabric shade in two parts: a narrow domed cap at the top that swells into a broad rounded bell below, with a turned wooden ball sitting above the cap where the rust coloured flex enters. The fabric is off white and stretched over a frame, and fine brown lines run through it, straight down the cap and then following the curve of the bell as a set of nested arches that meet at a point. The lower edge is left unhemmed, with the threads of the weave showing along it. It is 60cm tall and 45cm across.

Fabric over a frame does not block light, it slows it. Switched on, the whole shade lights from the inside, the weave comes up as a grain across it and the arches stand out as darker lines, and the bulb reads as a bright area rather than as a point. Below the open rim the light falls straight down. At 60cm tall this is a shade to hang where it is seen at close range, over a bed or beside a chair in a sitting room. It takes one E27 bulb up to 40W, it is dimmable, and it is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

The shade is a cotton blend over an iron frame and the ball at the top is turned wood. The brown lines run with the panels of the fabric and change direction where the panels do. Bulbs are not included.

What is the ball at the top?

A turned wooden ball, fitted on the flex just above the top of the shade.

Why is the bottom edge raw?

The lower edge is left unhemmed, so the threads of the weave show along it. Every shade is finished the same way.

How much light does it give out?

The cloth is not opaque, so light comes through the whole shade as well as straight down through the open rim.

How do I clean it?

Switch it off, then wipe it gently with a microfibre cloth. Keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners off it.
