Description
The Karmena ceiling light sits close to the ceiling, with a round black steel canopy holding a faceted, open-woven shade made from twisted strands of natural paper. It is 38cm in diameter and 26.5cm high, a generous size that gives a room a real focal point without hanging low. It takes an E27 bulb of up to 40W, and the bulb is not included, so you can choose the colour of light that suits the room. The IP20 rating settles where it belongs: indoors, in dry rooms, rather than in a bathroom or anywhere damp.
We would hang it in a living room, bedroom, dining room or hallway, anywhere a natural, earthy texture will sit comfortably. The warm tan of the paper against the black canopy suits Scandinavian, rustic and relaxed modern schemes alike, and it works well over a dining table or in the centre of a bedroom ceiling. The shade is loosely woven and open at the base, so light falls straight down into the room as well as through the gaps in the weave, giving the space more texture than a plain shade would.
The canopy is steel with a black finish, and the shade is natural paper woven into an open, faceted drum. There is no switch on the light itself: it works from your existing wall switch. It runs on 220-240V mains and, as a wired-in ceiling light, it should be installed by a qualified electrician; the installation instructions come as a download. The packed weight is 1.745KG. Paper marks easily if it gets wet, so a soft, dry brush or a feather duster run gently over the weave is the best way to keep it free of dust. Before it goes up, pick an E27 bulb of no more than 40W.

Frequently Asked
Can the Karmena go in a bathroom?
No. It has an IP20 rating, which means it is made for indoor, dry rooms, so we would keep it out of bathrooms and anywhere damp.
Is a bulb included?
The bulb is not included. The light takes an E27 bulb with a maximum of 40W, so you can choose the colour and brightness you prefer.
How big is the Karmena ceiling light?
It is 38cm in diameter and 26.5cm high, and it sits close to the ceiling on a round black canopy.
What material is the shade?
The shade is natural paper, twisted into strands and woven into an open, faceted drum, while the canopy is black steel.
Does the light have its own switch?
No, there is no switch on the fitting itself. It is switched at the wall, so it works from your existing light switch.
How should I clean the paper shade?
Paper marks easily if it gets wet, so we suggest a soft, dry brush or a feather duster passed gently across the weave.
