Description

The Kapok is a ceramic ceiling light with a wide, shallow shade whose scalloped edge rolls gently round. The shade is finished in a Matt White Striped glaze, with fine lines running out from the centre to that wavy rim, so it reads soft and textured rather than flat. A short brass lampholder and round ceiling plate carry a single bulb beneath the shade, and the metalwork comes in a choice of finishes: Antique Brass, Antique Silver, Matt Black, Polished Brass, Polished Copper or Satin Brass. The whole fitting is 10cm tall and 27cm across. It takes one E27 bulb, up to 40W, and bulbs are sold separately.

Because it is only 10cm tall, the Kapok sits close to the ceiling, which makes it a good choice for hallways, landings and rooms where a hanging pendant would feel low overhead. It suits a bedroom, a living room or a study, and a pair or a row along a corridor keeps the look consistent from one end to the other. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms indoors only. The finishes let you match it to the rest of a room: Matt Black for crisp contrast against the Matt White Striped glaze, Antique Brass or Antique Silver for a softer, aged look, and Polished Brass, Polished Copper or Satin Brass for warmer metal.

The Kapok is made from brass and ceramic, and every light is made to order for you in Ireland. The Matt Black finish is painted to RAL 9005. It is a mains fitting, to be wired in by a qualified electrician. The maker guarantees the fittings it makes for five years from the date of purchase, and bulbs are not covered. One practical note: at 27cm across, the Kapok has real presence without crowding a smaller room.
